Meditation is a method of concentration used to enter an altered state of consciousness. This can be anything from simply relaxing, to entering a place where spiritual healing or psychic journeying can take place.
Meditation can take many different forms, such as mindfulness, emptying the mind, or being guided by someone else to see different visions and experiences with the mind’s eye. Meditation can be an excellent way of reducing stress and bringing focus into your life. When done correctly, it should not involve strenuous concentration, it should never make you feel that you are not in control of yourself or your situation, you shouldn’t have to put your body in particular poses (although some can help — it’s hard to meditate if you’re cramping up or uncomfortable), and you shouldn’t have to do any mental gymnastics. Meditation, when done properly, is simple, relaxing, and beneficial to your mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical self.
