Can you believe we only have a few days left in 2016? The two biggest transits from the Universe in December are still yet to come. We are currently under the spell of a Mercury retrograde, but we have a few events in the coming days that can help you to prepare for an outstanding year.
While you may be very busy getting ready for the holidays and planning things with family and friends, it is very likely that the year ahead is on your mind. You can begin to prepare for this year by getting in the right mindset, and this mindset has nothing to do with New Year’s resolutions.

The problem with New Year’s resolutions is, statistically speaking, they never work out, you’re likely to give up on it after a month. For every article on New Year’s resolutions that you will read this week, you will see ten more in January about why people fail at them.
Forget resolutions, they focus on a problem in your life that you need to fix, rather than creating a remarkable life. Instead, focus on choosing to have an exceptional life. Make the commitment to your higher self that the year ahead is going to be extraordinary.
We have already talked this month about how happiness is a choice. This is sage advice for those moments when life is stressing you out. An optimistic spirit will help you get through a stressful day. What I am talking about right now is taking that optimism one step further.
Make the commitment to yourself to have an exceptional life no matter what. It goes so much further than New Year’s resolutions. Don’t settle for anything less than a life that is authentic and makes you happy.
Olympic athletes do not become Olympic athletes by showing up one day and getting a medal. These people make the commitment to themselves early in their lives that they will be exceptional. Then they do not stop looking at the end game and doing everything in their power to achieve their goals.
Adopting this perspective is how you can have an exceptional life too! Whether you’re trying to improve your love life, or attempting to take your career to the next level. You have to make the commitment to yourself first before anything could happen.
The Universe has some transits during December to help you make this commitment to yourself that you will have a remarkable life. The most important one is the New Moon in Capricorn. This Moon is about planting seeds of new beginnings. What greater new beginning could you have than a New Moon and a new year?
Most people view life as an endless to-do list with things they need to cross off to be successful. I want to give you an example of why this thinking is flawed.
When you enter a friendship or romantic relationship, do you go in with the mindset that you’re going to cross certain things off a list to make sure that you become a better person while you’re in this friendship or romantic experience? Most people do not have this mindset.
You probably entered the relationship and realized you’ve found someone that can help you have an exceptional life, you then made the commitment to making it work. You make the relationship the best it can be by evaluating the strengths and challenges of the people in the relationship and ‘negotiating’ your needs.
A relationship is cyclical and involves change. You’ve probably have broken up with lovers or had to set boundaries with family members and friends when they have hurt you with their actions. You won’t accept behavior that harms (or doesn’t improve) your life from others, so don’t accept it from yourself.
If you are able to make a commitment to have a great relationship with another human being in your life, why can’t you make a commitment to make your own life amazing right now? Once you decide that you’re going to do it, then you just need the action plan to set that ball in motion.

The New Moon in Capricorn is all about making the commitment to yourself and deciding that you’re going to have an incredible life. It’s a time for reflection, dreaming big, and goal setting; not necessarily about taking action. Do not call your goals a New Year’s resolution, or you will fail.
Tell your higher self that you are going to make your life exceptional one day at a time, and then when the new year begins, get it done. You deserve the wonderful life that awaits you in 2017.
