Beneficial Thought: How’s Your Heart Chakra? Heal it with Self-care

We all need a little more love in our lives. There are also times when we need a little bit more than usual. Everybody has good days and bad days, and you are entitled to them. The bad days only become a problem if you get stuck in them. You know you are stuck in a rut if you have more bad days than good days.

Today we are going to talk about how to get out of that rut, by because we’ve all been there. It starts with healing that powerful energy center called the heart chakra. Believe it or not, the most powerful way to get out of the bad day rut is to just love yourself more. Society tries to condition us into thinking that self- compassion or self-care is, well, selfish. It’s not, it is the most important thing you do in your life.

Loving yourself and taking care of your own physical and emotional needs can feel tough, with so many responsibilities on your plate, but it’s easier than you think. The simplest way to engage self-love every single day is to make sure your heart chakra is spinning and humming along happily. When it is, everything negative and toxic in the world literally bounces right off you. Who wouldn’t want that?

What is the Heart Chakra?

The heart chakra is one of the energy centers in your body. It is located in the centre of your chest near your heart. It is symbolized by the color green. The heart chakra is your love and joy center. When you’re having a bad day, its energy slows down. When you have too many bad days in a row, it can slow down to almost a complete stop.

When something amazing happens, it starts pinging like crazy and you feel joyful and your love cup runneth over. We can’t expect to feel like that every day, but you can experience more of these days when your heart chakra is in alignment. In fact, having a full love tank even during dark days is the first clue you have a healthy heart chakra.

In this chaotic world, we all need a little bit of help and practice with feeling joy and love sometimes. The word ‘hate’ replaces ‘heart’ too often, but it doesn’t have to for you. The first step is knowing if your heart chakra needs a tune up, and then how to heal it so your life feels full of happiness.

How to Know Your Heart Chakra Needs Some Love

You can tell your heart chakra needs some love if you are down in the dumps a lot; if the littlest thing wears you down; or you find yourself in frustrated tears more often than feels normal. Frequent anger bursts over things that aren’t major events is another way to tell if you need to do some tweaking of your heart chakra.

Telling yourself to ‘act’ positive all the time can be exhausting. More often than not, being positive and loving the world is becoming increasingly difficult. If you find your days are always negative and you can’t remember the last time you felt joy, then your heart chakra needs some help.

If you scoff at the word “love tank,” then, yours needs to be filled. The best way to do that? Take care of yourself and your needs first. If your heart chakra is sick, then, so are you. We all have all had times when we’ve felt down and that the world is harsh; this is not a slam against you. You can’t be who you need to be for the people that you love when you are sick.

When you have the flu, you take care of yourself. When you have a migraine or a broken leg, you take care of yourself. It’s not selfish to go to the doctor to get your broken leg fixed! It’s a must. The same goes for your heart chakra. If it’s running on empty, it’s time for a time out for you to fill it up again.

Self-Care Can Help Heal the Heart Chakra

There are many things that you can do to practice more self-compassion and self-care in your everyday life. The first thing you need to do is make the choice to do it. Sounds too easy? You’d be surprised how many people don’t go to the doctor when they need to. That’s not good.

You have to make the choice to go to the doctor when you are ill, and you have to make the choice to put yourself first once in a while. It’s a must for a healthy and a life filled with joy. The same goes for your heart chakra. Don’t go through life feeling empty and devoid of joy, fix it!

Again, you have to make the choice to heal your heart chakra. When you do, start scheduling it into your day. It’s very easy to claim you’re too busy, but would you say you were too busy to get your leg fixed if it was broken? No. The pain would be overwhelming. Well, so is sadness. That is the outcome you’re heading for if your heart chakra is not in good form.

You can begin to heal the heart chakra by surrounding yourself with green. The color green activates the heart chakra. Wearing green clothing is a great way to get that energy center spinning. Have you ever gone to a tropical place and just been filled with awe and wonder at how green everything is? Or have you ever just been so excited by spring, just because little green buds are popping up? That’s your heart chakra telling you that you love what is happening around you.

Take the time to meditate on the color green. Meditation is a very powerful form of self-care. Picture yourself in that exotic and tropical setting, if you’ve never been there, enter fantasy land a little bit and just lie on the green grass and let yourself be swept away. Doing this for five minutes a day is a powerful way to get that heart chakra spinning again.

Lastly, stop being so darn hard on yourself! You are not perfect. Guess what? Nobody is, we are all flawed human beings. We are also amazing human beings when we are filled with love. No matter what we look like, no matter what size we are, no matter what job we have, no matter what our bank account says. You deserve to be happy.

Don’t compare yourself with any other person on this planet. Their journey is not your journey. No matter how successful and together they may look to you, they have their own problems. You just can’t see them, any more than they can see your struggles. Don’t be so hard on yourself, because it’s very bad for your physical health and your soul. Instead, celebrate yourself, that is what self-compassion is. Make the choice, and start looking out for number one.

Spend a few minutes a day, or an hour a week, doing something that fills you with this joy. It needs to be something that is just yours, and yours alone. When you do this, you start to feel good, you feel invigorated, you feel more energetic and purposeful. That’s your heart chakra pinging with joy.


Loving yourself could be the most challenging, but important, thing you do in your life. When you figure this out, It’s good for your heart chakra and it’s good for your soul. Every time you do something to care for yourself and are compassionate with yourself, you send the powerful message to your soul and your heart chakra that no matter what happens in the world, you are going to love anyway.

Start on your journey of healing your heart chakra and you will feel the benefits of more joy, balance, and energy. You will be able to connect to yourself and the people around you with more love and understanding. It all starts with an open and aligned heart.
