The primal triad is a feature in a natal chart where the astrologer examines your big three.

Your ‘big three’ or primal triad in astrology is a combination of...

  1. Your Sun sign

  2. Your Moon sign

  3. Your Rising sign/Ascendant

A graphic representing the three signs in the primal triad.

These three elements have the greatest influence on the personality, for they reveal the first impressions, the innermost feelings, and the outward self.

Since your Sun represents your main traits, your Moon represents your emotional side, and your ascendant represents how you show yourself to the world.

When looking at your birth chart, these three signs are the skeleton of your chart - they act as the main pieces of you that everything else builds off of.

Your primal triad can affect you more than others or even less, it is dependant on how the Sun, Moon, and Rising signs are aspected to each other. It’s important to look for common themes between the three to help drive direction in your chart. Are they all fixed? Are they mostly fire signs? What lessons can you learn in your lifetime from your triad?

How these three signs sit in comparison to the other planets and placements in the natal chart can change everything - get an Astrologers opinion on your chart.
