The simple answer to the question ‘can you use astrology to predict the future’ is yes. The more accurate answer to this question is ‘yes and no.’ Because the planets create predictable psychic environments, to a great degree, depending on one’s astrological education, many events can be seen in advance. Because we have the ability to direct our thoughts, the future is never written in stone so we have the intellectual capacity to shift the likely outcome and patterns that our minds can play out based on the psychological pressures that affect us.
Sounds complicated right? The good news is that when I was first learning astrology, even the more basic ways of predicting emotional climates or changes were and still are unbelievably helpful. The truth is astrology is so complex that you can continue learning your whole life and keep finding even more ways to predict the future.
But how can we apply it to our lives today? How can we use the information without getting confused and how can we use these types of predictions effectively in our lives? This is something I have personally found to be one of my favourite things to teach people because there are some simple, straightforward and monthly things we can use for predicting that genuinely make manifesting and navigating your day easier. Here they are!
6 Easy Ways You Can Use Astrology To Predict The Future
1. The Monthly Moon Cycle
Each month you usually have one and sometimes two (which is known as a Blue Moon) Full Moons. You know people will generally experience change, plans going awry, things finally moving forward, births, fights and confidence to do what they’ve been wanting to do. It’s a time when everything seems to happen all at once for everyone. Depending on what sign the Full Moon is in, you’ll know which type of energy the Full Moon will bring as well. People are full of energy, tend to go on a first date, socialize or yes get in a bar brawl. If you’ve planted seeds, they often sprout now. Emotions bubble up and people blow a fuse, relationships start and end or change occurs in some way.
The New Moon is also a way to predict how people will feel. They often feel like retreating, pulling away to reflect and connect to their spiritual truth to catch an idea that they will nurture up until the Full Moon that will help them reach their goal. People generally feel tired and will stay in. The periods between the New Moon and Full Moon are creative and the periods between the Full Moon and new are less creative, even sometimes a bit confusing. All these periods are predictable each month.
2. The Retrograde Cycles
The inner planets of Mercury, Venus, Mars each have a predictable effect when they go retrograde. Mercury messes with electronics, mail and communication 3 times yearly for 3-4 weeks at a time and it’s common knowledge that this is when websites go down, computers crash and people have trouble conveying clearly what they mean. Things are able to move forward like clockwork when Mercury stations direct and more so when the post shadow period ends.
When Venus goes retrograde, we can expect ex-lovers to resurface or to dream about them. When Mars goes retrograde we can expect our libido to diminish or our energy to go down temporarily as our passion is dormant. As these planets go direct, we will notice a shift in others and in ourselves. It’s remarkable! This means we don’t need to beat ourselves up when we are tired and we won’t be caught off guard when an ex contacts us out of the blue.
3. Eclipse Season
One prediction you can always make is that each year during the two eclipse seasons, there will be major life changes in the people around us, our own lives and core belief systems. Eclipses usually happen over the course of one to two months and with them come new homes, new jobs, new relationships and similar major life decisions. Often people don’t know it’s eclipse season and they are surprised when these changes seem to occur for everyone at once. It can be very helpful if you’re tracking your own mental process so the changes don’t catch you off guard. You can even feel the build-up of energy as these events approach.
The energy of a solar eclipse means that the energy of the sun is pushing us forward. We can use our focus to hone in on exactly what our goal is so that the sun pushes us towards our goals instead of just getting pushed.

4. Saturn Returns
One major life transition that is predictable in most people is called the Saturn Return. This is a time when Saturn, the planet of responsibility and time, returns to the same point it was when you were born and it occurs around the age of 29. This is a right of passage where we mature and get to know our life purpose on a much deeper level. It’s as if karma bites us in the rear so to speak because if we have been ignoring our higher calling, we will go through an experience of soul reckoning that will wake us up to it.
Usually, people go through some kind of existential crisis and change their life and core beliefs at this time. It can be challenging for many but the good news is that this mini-death is also a rebirth which allows us to grow and connect to life on a deeper and more fulfilling level.

5. Horoscopes
You can read your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly horoscopes to understand the themes and energies you will be dealing with during those times. Revisiting your horoscope before, during, and after certain transits can help you see how these themes play out. It’s possible that it is actually more valuable to read the horoscope for your Rising Sign instead of your sun sign in fact and many astrologers believe this.
6. Locate the Inner Planets
The theme for our month and the general way people will be acting and feeling can be determined by what sign the sun is in. The daily emotional climate and the energy available to you and affecting others can be predicted by looking at what sign the Moon is in. The sun stays in one sign for 30 days and the Moon for 2.5. Once you’re familiar with the planetary energies and sign traits, you can start to predict how the inner planets in a sign will affect the general mood of people and yourself. If you’re interested in learning about where each planet will be you can use an ephemeris which provides data about which sign each planet is each daily. There are also outer planets, of course, that have a major effect on us. Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto have larger cycles that create predictable environments on both the small and large scope in the world.
Don’t Become Overly Reliant on Predictions
Basically, you could spend so much time predicting what’s coming that you forget to manifest. The point of astrology is to first find your talent and second see what your soul came here to do to help the world. As we use the Moon cycles to manifest the resources we need, we are using astrology to co-create the future. When we know our weaknesses, we can use the predictions to take the higher road, not be reactive, not get angry and harness the energy to be kind and helpful global citizens.
Astrology predictions become a crutch when we only look for things like love and money to come to us. One of the higher laws of the Universe states that the energy we give out is what we get back. That means we must focus on being a good person to meet other good people. We must give energy to receive it. We cannot just sit back and think astrology will solve everything, we need to use our will to purify our intentions daily using the tool of astrology to become the best and kindest versions of ourselves as possible, that’s what I consider ‘winning.’
Concluding Thoughts…
You can get a transit, progression, or solar return reading from an expert Astrologer to help you if you’re trying to see what types of situations to prepare yourself for. You can still use these predictions to help you grow and not to just sit back and let life happen to you. Even with the highly accurate predictions a master Astrologer can provide, they will not offer us true satisfaction unless we are working to be a better person and taking responsibility for our words, thoughts, and actions.
