The easiest way to get a glimpse of what’s upcoming in your career and your life is to calculate your Personal Year Number and find out what cycle you’re in. Similar to how our birth date determines our birth chart, we can also use this information to find the number that corresponds to our year. This is easy math that relates to your date of birth.

You can use our Personal Year Number Calculator to figure it out.

How to Calculate Your Personal Year Number

If you’d like to see how Your Personal Year Number is calculated – here is an example. If you were born on November 28th you’d add 2 + 8 to get 10, which reduces down to 1 because 1 + 0 = 1. Then you take the month you were born and add it together to get it to a single digit. (November is the 11th month of the year, 1 + 1 = 2)

Lastly, you consider the current year and add it together to get a single digit. For example, 2017 is 2 + 0 + 1 + 7 = 10 (1 + 0 = 1). Then add all that together, 1 + 2 + 1 = 4. The calculation reveals you’re in a personal year 4. Go and calculate your Personal Year Number and when you know that, what do you do with that information? How does it help you?

Personal Year 1

It is a time of new beginnings, so if you’re seeking a career change, this may be a good year to do it. Of course, this newness brings new challenges too, and you have to make sure that you’re prepared to meet them. Sometimes it’s easier to stay than it is to deal with the consequences that major changes might bring during this year.

It’s a good idea to start by clarifying your career goals rather than making sudden or impulsive decisions.

Hard work is involved! Perhaps there are obstacles in your path, or maybe you’re not quite ready to take the plunge. Devise a plan to meet your goals. If you decide that now isn’t the best time for a new job, it’s still a great year for exploring your options and making any changes that feel right.

Personal Year 2

It isn’t the best time for making any sudden moves. It’s more a year for patience. You’re going to find yourself in the background and that could cause frustration on the job front. If you don’t feel that you’re getting the attention and the accolades that you desire or think you deserve, you’ll find this period very vexing. However, don’t forget that sometimes you have to be in a supporting role before you get the ultimate rewards.

You won’t see a lot of progress this year. It’s a test of your integrity and your sense of self-worth. It’s possible you’ll feel lost or disillusioned. Take heart, this is a phase for learning. Figure out how to stand up for yourself, how to work with others to get things done, and how to improve your connections. Rather than leaping into a new career, you might be better spending your time networking.

Personal Year 3

This will be a year of expansion and growth, even if you don’t actually make a career move. Your creativity is high and you’ll communicate your ideas well. Look at this year as an opportunity to network. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet with others who can help you to advance—or even change—your profession. Look up your past colleagues and find out what they’re doing now; maybe they’re looking for what you have to offer.

It’s not a period for taking on additional responsibilities. You’re going to have more opportunities to travel and enjoy yourself, but don’t get too frivolous. You don’t want to jeopardize your chances of advancement. If you’ve made long-term goals in the past, don’t abandon them, but put them on the shelf, and reevaluate in a few months. Life’s very full if you’re in a personal year 3 and you might just want to enjoy it; worry about your job next year!

Personal Year 4

Last year was the year for socializing, this is the year for hard work. You’ll take back your self-control and toe the line in order to make some real progress toward your long-term goals. You may feel overlooked; like you’re doing all the work and someone else is getting the reward. Once again this is a year for patience. The number four represents a cornerstone, and you’re going to have to reevaluate and tweak what you want out of your job.

You could think you’ve had enough, that you’re not getting where you want to go and a complete change is necessary. If that’s the case, look at the foundation you’ve built. Prepare by gathering references, and look where you have a chance to advance yourself. Above all, remember that no matter what you do this year, next year is going to be a flurry of activity! Make sure that you pace yourself and that you take care of your health.

Personal Year 5

After the hard work of last year, this one is full of major changes. It will be easier for you to get ahead. You’ll meet new contacts and influential people who can help you to further your career path. This year will also bring some interesting social activities. Don’t hesitate to mix business with pleasure. Network, but always be mindful of what you say and who you say it to. It’s time for new directions, so don’t talk yourself out of them.

The issue with this year is that you might be tempted to overstretch yourself. Take on that new job, fulfill that new obligation, shoulder that responsibility; but make sure that you’ve got the time and energy to devote to them. This year may bring upheaval, no matter how you approach it. If you’ve overstretched any of your resources, then you could put more than your job in jeopardy. Your reputation and your reliability are at stake.

Personal Year 6

This year brings increasing family responsibilities. If you’re the main breadwinner in your family or if you work from home it will impact you especially. There are changes coming and additional responsibilities to attend to. It’s not a year when you’re going to see a lot of success and recognition, but it’s great for revisiting ideas you once had regarding your profession.

Nothing is going to happen fast this year at work, with your family, close friends, or even when it comes to home improvements or house moves. It’s still a good year for networking. If you’re determined to change jobs in a Personal Year 6, consider working from home, or maybe join an existing family business. The most important thing you can do during this period is to slow down to the speed of life because the pace will soon pick up again!

Personal Year 7

You’ll be moody and introspective this year, and all of that thinking perhaps isn’t particularly motivating as far as a job change goes. However, if you’re thinking of swapping careers This is a great year for further education, skills training, or exploring a completely new field. You’re not going to feel particularly social, and the company of others might even get on your nerves, so this isn’t the best year for networking or influencing people!

This period also has the potential for making you feel pressured about your job. Look at your long-term goals and see what’s out of harmony. Reevaluate any retirement plans. It isn’t a year for doing. It’s a year for planning and refining what you want from life. Put any inclination towards list-making, blogging or journaling to work and use it to your advantage. Your analytical skills are sharp and you’re receptive to new ideas.

Personal Year 8

You’ll be powerful and move forward in your job with confidence and strength. Any ideas you formed last year start to manifest. You’ll be able to expand what you do, confidently, and with conviction. There’s strong leadership potential this year; harness it correctly. You’ll be presented with big decisions and the opportunity for major developments. You will earn rewards and the admiration of your peers for your skills and talents that may have gone unnoticed.

The caution here is don’t get too cocky. There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Work with people, rather than above them. Never forget how it felt when you were working hard and not being appreciated for It. Never overlook the people who have helped you get where you are. You’ve got strong leadership potential this year; harness it correctly.

Personal Year 9

It is the end of the 9-year cycle, therefore, it’s a year of finishing what you started. It’s not a time for a new career or new work challenges because anything started at this time might be short-lived. Use this period for taking stock of your goals, tidying up loose ends, finishing projects, and determining what you have outgrown. If you’ve outgrown your current job, then use this as a phase where you’re updating your resume and prepare to start a new cycle next year.

While it’s important to take the advice of others, don’t depend on them to tell you what to do. Everything you’ve done over the last 9 years is going to come under the magnifying glass. Throw out what’s old and stale, and keep what you want to carry with you. Even relationships that have run their course need to go. You don’t want anything holding you back from the cycle of newness that you’re going to start next year.
