The 12 Astrological Houses: 10th House of Career and Social Status
The 10th house of your astrology birth chart is the ‘house of social status.’ That also includes your career. It’s also one of the work related houses, the 6th and the 2nd being the other two. These three houses work together in your chart to bring you success or challenges. Their geometrical angles form a positive astrology aspect known as a trine.
Your vocation, your place in your community, how society sees you, and people in authority are all represented in the 10th house. This also one of the houses that suggest your parental influence, the other being the 4th house. Even consumerism - how you value the money you earn - is hinted at here. Anything to do with status and your social standing is rooted in this area of your chart.
This house makes a perpendicular angle to the Ascendant and the cusp of the 7th house, and that’s sometimes a challenging aspect. The 10th house cusp is a very important point in your natal chart. The traditional ruler of this house is Saturn, and the Sun sign Capricorn. It’s a mutable house, and it belongs to the element of earth.
The 10th House Reveals More About Your Career
This house is important when it comes to you finding your ‘dream job.’ You examined your innate skills and talents in the 2nd house, and you evaluated your attitudes towards your work environment in the 6th house. The 10th house is where it all comes together.
The 4th house rules your private life, family values, and traditions. In the 10th, all of this comes into the public eye. This is where your drive, your ambition, and what you’re willing to do to become successful will be revealed.

The 10th House Shows Your Social Standing
Your social standing has a lot to do with your career. It’s not dependent on it, but it stands to reason that the more successful you are professionally, the more your accomplishments will color your position in society. The money you earn buys you a bigger house in a nicer neighborhood, for example, or allows you to be philanthropic with your assets.
Keep in mind, if you’re misusing your resources, such as being arrogant or greedy with them, that’s going to affect your social standing, too. You’re not automatically going to be loved just because you’re wealthy; nor are you automatically going to be shunned because you’re not. Character is everything. Many of your accomplishments happen because of others who helped you, and that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The 10th House Reflects Your Views on Authority
The 10th house is where your attitudes towards those in a higher social standing are found. The way you view your boss or your local government is reflected in this house. How you respond to those farther up the chain of command directly influences your chances of climbing that chain.
Authority doesn’t always have to point to another person or group of people. You have to take on responsibility for your own actions. As you climb the career ladder, more and more authority is going to be thrust upon you. How you use it, and what you achieve through your actions and the way you treat people in your care is food for thought.
The 10th House Reveals Your Ego
It stands to reason that, with all of this authority and prestige surrounding the tenth house, a lot can be uncovered about your own ego and identity. In previous decades, a person’s career and social status were often handed down from a parent. A farmers son was expected to grow up to work the farm, and one day take it over. A king’s heir was groomed to be the ruler of the land.
The way that you acknowledge your role in society is indicated in the tenth house. You may have many assets and be very wealthy, but - like King Midas - if you throw yourself into acquiring material wealth rather than nurturing people sometimes you could grow very lonely indeed. Proper balance between the id and the ego is necessary for you to be successful in society.
The 10th house is a very career driven house that gives you a lot of information about your professional status, your social standing, as well as your ego and attitude towards authority. This house can definitely point to how successful you will be in life.
