Connecting with Yourself: How to Have the Best Relationship with You

Do you feel disconnected lately? Do you wonder where you’ve been, mentally? It isn’t always easy to maintain the mind-body connection within ourselves, let alone remain connected to our spirits. Keeping in contact with your innermost desires and beliefs is important for remaining balanced and centered.

Staying strong in our center is the best method for providing the necessary energy for giving to others, but what can you do when you’ve lost that connection?

Fortunately, there are myriad tricks, techniques and tools you can arm yourself with to stay prepared to connect to every cell in your body. Let’s take a look at a few effective, fool-proof ways to build a stronger connection with yourself.

Yoga

Yoga is an exercise made up of rhythmic movements and deep breathing, and is synonymous with calm serenity. This practice creates balance by teaching your body to be still and move mindfully and peacefully. This is one of the most effective methods for grounding yourself and laying spiritual roots within the earth’s crust.

Try joining a local yoga class or group, or looking for a DVD or program that you can do at home, which can be found online or at your local library.

Meditation

Meditation is a practice that involves quiet, contemplative moments of immersing yourself in the present. It isn’t necessarily easy for anyone, so don’t be discouraged if you’ve attempted meditation without achieving the desired results of inner stillness.

The goal of meditating is not to stop thinking, but to allow thoughts to come and go without holding onto them. It is simply about being in the current moment.

Tarot

When you’re in a bit of a slump when it comes to your relationship with yourself, tarot can be a wonderful exercise for learning more about the mysteries within yourself. Even a small, three-card reading can provide enough information to bring you closer to a meaningful, self-connection.

Try keeping a journal or log to record your results each day, and pay attention to any recurring card or themes. Each day you consult the cards will provide you with some insight, be it big or small. Trust the cards and remember that while they don’t always tell you what you want to hear, they’ll always show you what you need to see.

Self-Made Spa

Sometimes a little pampering is all you need to feel at home in your own body. You can enjoy a day of relaxing spa activities without spending a fortune. Secure a few supplies like chilled cucumber, rose water, bubbles for the bath and hot tea or a glass of wine. Take the day to melt into the comfort of taking care of yourself.

Don’t let yourself feel guilty for making time that you appoint only to yourself. This is all about reconnecting with yourself on the inside and the outside; soak in the warmth and release the tension from daily life. You’ll thank yourself for it.

Creative Outlets

Sometimes, our energy gets built up and congested because we haven’t adopted an appropriate outlet for our emotions. Even if you don’t feel particularly creative, try something that allows you to express yourself in a way that’s comfortable for you.

This might include writing, drawing, painting, singing or sculpting; whatever medium you choose, make it your own. Dive into the rich, internal wells of depth and discovery within you. Release your emotions and frustrations through song, dance or acting. Just get it out in a healthy way that contributes to your well-being.

Don’t worry about the quality of what you create, or trying to do something perfectly. Embrace being the imperfectly perfect version of who you are.

Volunteer

One of the best ways to rediscover yourself and what you want out of life is to give of yourself to those in need. In our increasingly busy society it can feel like you don’t have time to fit anything else into your schedule; however, volunteering your time will actually give you a sense of freedom and deliberation in your life as well as your relationship with yourself.

In nearly every city, there are innumerable opportunities to donate your time. The areas of volunteer and groups that most need your help will likely include homeless services, victims of physical abuse, elderly people and animal shelters.

Balance Your Chakras

There are times when we feel down, depressed or just a little anxious and we don’t even realize that our misaligned chakras are to blame. Balancing your chakras only takes a ten to fifteen minutes and you can feel the beneficial effect immediately.

As you can see, there are many ways to bridge the lost connection between you and yourself. Often, taking the step to learn more about yourself creates enough stimulation to begin rebuilding your personal connection.

The most important thing to remember is to avoid becoming discouraged with yourself based on perceived failure. You are beautiful and perfect exactly as you are.
