Are you feeling fatigued, exhausted, as though your spirit has been drained? We all lose our motivation and energy from time to time; the cold winter months can be especially difficult for rousing your vitality. While there are many ways to amplify your inner spirit, essential oils are a safe, effective means for bringing you back to life.
Essential oils are natural oils extracted from plants that work by entering your olfactory system and treating your fatigue from the inside out. Essential oils can be used in many ways; diffusers fill your room with the comforting scents of your choice while adding a drop or two to your bath water is equally effective. Some use essential oils for the holidays or to set the mood in the evening – it is your choice.
A small dab of an essential oil blend under the nose and on the temples will leave you feeling refreshed and energized. While essential oils are extremely concentrated and not intended for ingestion, I personally find that one drop of lemon essential oil in my ice water is better than a cup of coffee in the morning.
The benefit of using essential oils over other means of creating an energetic attitude, such as caffeine, are innumerable. Essential oils are non-toxic, safe, and effective.
*One important note is that, while essential oils are safe for people, animals have a different reaction to them. Cats, in particular, are missing an essential enzyme (glucuronyl tranferase) in their liver that processes and digests certain oils.
Oils high in Phenols (such as Cassia, Clove and Cinnamon) and Monoterpene Hydrocarbons (such as Citrus oils, Spruce and Fir) should never be diffused around kitties. Additionally, keep them safe and locked up in a location that is not accessible to your furry feline friend.
Now that you’re more familiar with certain aspects of essential oil use, let’s take a look at the most beneficial oils for restoring your energy.
Lemon Oil
Lemon oil has many healing properties, including cleansing aspects that rid your system of toxins, as well as antimicrobial, purifying benefits. It can enhance digestion, improve bad breath and aid in relieving congestion. Additionally, lemon oil is known for its stimulating properties.
One whiff is likely to put a bounce back into your step, leaving you rejuvenated and relaxed.
Orange Oil
Orange oil, besides smelling incredibly delicious (think ripe and juicy), can be used as an aphrodisiac, antidepressant, and sedative. While it can help you relax, its bright, fresh scent is revitalizing and energetic.
Grapefruit Oil
This oil, with its sweet yet slightly bitter fragrance, is useful for its myriad benefits. Grapefruit oil can assist you in curbing sugar cravings, as well as encourage weight loss. It cleanses the body and the mind, acting as an antidepressant, as well as providing a boost for your immune system.
Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus oil is a personal favorite of mine, with its many awesome, healing properties. It acts as an anti-inflammatory as well as an antioxidant in the system. It is supportive to the immune system, by stimulating its functions. It is a highly energetic, useful oil for colds, stress relief, and even allergies.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil evokes the feeling of a crisp, winter evening filled with merriment and celebration. Its benefits include increased energy, combating bad breath, relaxing muscles, providing mental clarity and aiding digestion. Combine with Eucalyptus oil for a natural decongestant.
Rosemary Oil
Rosemary is one of the most helpful oils for combating fatigue; it can be used to treat chronic fatigue syndrome effectively. It acts as a disinfectant and can aid in hair and skincare. Additionally, it can enhance cognitive functioning and relieve stress. This herbal, sultry fragrance will bring you back to your center.
Ginger Oil
The spicy, sweet bouquet of Ginger essential oil has been used for centuries to soothe nausea, relieve bloating, and assist in healthy joints. This warm, invigorating scent will fill you with a calm energy that will both relax and inspire you.
While these oils are incredibly powerful for providing a boost of energy, there are many other beneficial essential oils for this, including Spearmint, Frankincense, Lavender, Pine, and Cedarwood. These oils can also be combined to produce a fragrance that speaks to your spirit.
Essential oils are a wonderful addition to your healthcare routine, complimenting mind, body, and soul.
