The world is pretty wrapped up in the U.S. presidential election, and we’re now looking at choosing between Republican nominee Donald Trump, who seeks to win again after losing four years ago, and Democrat Kamala Harris, the current Vice President and unexpected nominee after President Joe Biden opted to end his re-election bid.
These two are both seeking the same office but appear to be pretty different.
What does their astrology say about them?
Donald Trump is a Chatty Gemini Sun & Expansive Sagittarius Moon
Donald Trump was born with the Sun in the Twins, Gemini, a curious Air sign and movable Mutable sign. Gemini is the sign of the mind, communication, and keeps busy, and Trump very much likes to talk!
His Sun is conjunct, or aligned with, his Uranus in Gemini, and Uranus is the unconventional planet. Trump isn’t afraid to shake things up and break the rules and feels comfortable with this.
His Sun and Uranus are also joined with his North Node, which shows a person’s potential and purpose. This gives him a strong ego (Sun), and he’s meant to challenge the status quo in his own way.
His Moon is in Sagittarius, a Fire sign, and Sagittarius is the adventurer, the traveler, the one who roams. Trump doesn’t like to be still in his life too much and gets bored pretty easily.
Kamala Harris is a Fair-Minded Libra Sun & Fiery Aries Moon
Kamala Harris is an Air sign as well with her Sun in Libra, the sign of relationships. It’s no surprise that part of her elevation is due to her partnership with someone else – Joe Biden in this case – and she can benefit from working with other people.
Yet her Moon is in fiery Aries, and Aries Moons, especially women, are hard to box in. She knows who she is and what she wants, and no one will get in her way when she sets her mind to something.
She’s strong in her convictions and in her ability to argue them. It’s quite fitting she was Attorney General for California, especially as Libra rules justice – she was manifesting her Sun and Moon pretty well in that role!
Yet she also manifests it well as Vice President. Finding that balance between cooperation and competition can serve her well.
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris Were BOTH Born on a Full Moon
In a very weird and unusual twist, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were born on a Full Moon!
Full Moon people tend to have dynamic personalities, but this can translate to being absolutely lovable or downright hateable. Everyone around them falls in one camp or the other, and there is rarely anyone who is tepid about them.
That should be interesting for two presidential candidates, and they will likely engender very strong passion among their flock as well as their foes.
Being born on a Full Moon means that a person’s Sun and Moon oppose one another, which can be a challenge on a personal level as the ego (Sun) and emotions (Moon) are at odds.
Trump is Dynamic – But Missing the Practical
Donald Trump is extra dynamic because not only was he born on a Full Moon, it was also a Lunar Eclipse! That makes the dynamic energy even stronger and makes the love-him-or-hate-him impact even bigger.
Not only that, but he also has an anaretic Ascendant and Descendant. There are thirty degrees in every zodiac sign, and 29 is the last degree and called the anaretic degree.Â
Meanwhile, the Ascendant and Descendant are two of the angles that connect to the main pillars of our lives. The Ascendant governs the self while the Descendant governs others and our connections, and they exactly oppose each other.
People with an anaretic Ascendant-Descendant axis elicit strong responses from others and tend to have big personalities outwardly, though that may not be connected to who they really are. In Trump’s case, because he was born on a Full Moon, it really is connected to who he is!
He’s definitely not someone who can go quietly into the night and needs a lot of attention.
He has no planets in his natal chart in Earth signs, and when someone is missing an element, the main energy of that element is missing from their life and personality. With missing Earth signs, this means missing the practical, being realistic, and exercising restraint.
That pretty well jives with his personality, and he’s not someone anyone would call all that practical. He lives in the big ideas of his Sagittarius Moon and doesn’t want to bring that back down to Earth.
Kamala Harris Tests Her Karma – & the USA’s
Kamala Harris has her natal Saturn late in Aquarius, and Saturn is known as the Lord of Karma. In our natal chart, Saturn shows the life lessons we have to learn, and we can keep getting knocked over the head with them until we learn them or suffer consequences if we keep avoiding them.
Saturn is known as the disciplinarian and won’t allow us to operate irresponsibly, unethically, lackadaisically, or haphazardly. Saturn wants us to be focused, mature, and smart with what we do.
Saturn in Aquarius natives are people who need to learn to step into their own individuality, to embrace breaking the social norms but in disciplined ways, and to lean into the future. Saturn used to rule Aquarius, so even though Saturn is traditional and stoic and Aquarius is unconventional and erratic, it’s strong in this sign.
Kamala Harris underwent her second Saturn Return in February 2023, and this came as she was Vice President. You experience a Saturn Return when transit, or moving, Saturn returns to the exact position it was at when you were born, and this can be a period of great progress or great strife depending on how you’ve managed your Saturn lessons.
With how well things have gone for her since her second Saturn Return, methinks Saturn is pleased with her work on her lessons. If she can continue with that, she can continue to reap the Saturn rewards.
But this isn’t only her karma – it’s the USA’s as well, because in the USA’s natal chart, the USA’s Moon is conjunct Kamala Harris’s Saturn! So, there is a strong connection between her own karma and the USA’s.
It’s fitting she would be the first woman of color to be a presidential nominee, and that she was the first woman to be Vice President. Is she also meant to break through some of the USA’s karma?
The USA’s natal Moon in Aquarius has made us gravitate to those with Aquarius energy, and we tend to have presidents with Aquarius or Uranus featuring prominently in their natal charts.
Donald Trump has an Aquarius Descendant and Uranus on his Sun and North Node, while Kamala Harris has her Saturn in Aquarius, and her Uranus is part of a stellium (conjunct her natal Pluto and Venus in Virgo; stelliums are concentrated energy).
The Mars-Uranus Conjunction Shook Up Trump
In July, there was an assassination attempt against Donald Trump, and this came with transit Mars and transit Uranus conjunct in Taurus. This is exactly the kind of aspect you’d expect to see with that kind of event, as Mars is a planet of violence, and Uranus is the sudden and unexpected.
That conjunction occurred right on Donald Trump’s natal Midheaven, one of the angles that governs a person’s goals, ambitions, life path, and direction and is the highest part of the chart. Not a surprise then that the energy focused on him.
But the Mars-Uranus conjunction was also square, which is a challenging aspect, his natal Mars and widely square his natal Ascendant-Descendant, so it lit up all of his angles. Remember that the angles are the pillars of our lives, so this aspect shook up all of his pillars.
The event has likely had a much bigger impact on him than he’d admit, in a way that he wouldn’t want anyone to see. The square to natal Mars challenged his sense of masculinity and of strength, something he likely has invested a lot of his sense of self into with Mars on the Ascendant.
Pluto in Capricorn Challenges Kamala Harris
Kamala Harris has a lot of good astrology going on until transit Pluto goes back to Capricorn on September 1st. When it does, it’ll be forming a wide square to her natal Sun in Libra and Moon in Aries.
Pluto has been in Aquarius, and this brought some focus to her Saturn and some of that karma and lessons. Pluto is going back to Capricorn for one last hurrah and is in Capricorn until November 19th.
Pluto at hard angles to the natal Sun or Moon can be challenging on a deeply personal level since the Sun rules the inner self and the Moon rules the emotional self. Hard Pluto can bring power struggles, control issues, and likes to upend things.
This will be strongest for her around the end of Pluto retrograde on October 11th, and this is leading into the election.
In the U.S., we don’t generally see things really pick up with the presidential election until September (even though this one has been so very long already, ha), so it makes sense that once it does, it’s going to be brutal. Harris is poised to break a lot of barriers if she were to win, and that doesn’t come easy.
Jupiter in Gemini Gives Both Some Luck
In another weird twist of fate, transit Jupiter in Gemini brings both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris some good luck as Gemini is Donald Trump’s Sun and North Node sign, and Gemini is Kamala Harris’s Ascendant and North Node sign – yep, they’re both Gemini North Nodes!
Jupiter in your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant sign tends to be a period of expansion, new experiences, and exploration. It’s seen as a happy, optimistic, and lucky period that’s excellent for a new beginning, which could apply to either of them.
Jupiter in your North Node sign tends to propel you forward in some way toward your destiny, your fate, your karmic purpose, but this is positive rather than scary. It seems that they were destined for this matchup.
They have a karmic, spiritual link thanks to their nodes, with his Gemini Sun on her North Node and her Gemini Ascendant on his North Node. Whenever you have a nodal connection with someone, that shows a spiritual link between you. They may not like each other, but this is a pairing that was probably always in the works.
