An astrological transit refers to the physical path of a specific planet, in relation to another destination or with another planet in the zodiac. Transits are used as a tool to determine our birth charts and projected life path, as all planets and objects are in constant motion, called astrological progression.
Since planets are in motion all of the time, they move through the zodiac sign constellations in the sky. Additionally, because these planets are moving, particular attention is paid to the houses, signs, and aspects that these planetary bodies move through.
If you’ve ever heard that “X planet is in Gemini for X many days,” this is referring to the planet’s transit period. Each planet has a different transit period as some planets move slower and some move faster. Jupiter, for example, stays in one sign for a whole year, but Earth’s Moon travels through the entire zodiac in one month.
A journey between two planets can also be a transit but is usually paired up with an aspect. So, for example, when Uranus is square Pluto, both planets share this transit.
When an astrologer reads your chart, transits are the first thing they look at.
For example, transits answer the questions of
Where are your natal planets right now?
How are they transiting in the love or personal planets?
Where will there be conflicts or tension in my future?
When is the best time for me to move/get surgery?
